Ram Chandra Maharaj (1873-1931), also known as Lalaji Maharaj, was the pioneering spiritual master, or Adi-Guru, of Sahaj Marg, a path of Raja Yoga meditation originating in Fatehgarh, Uttar Pradesh. Through a unique method called yogic transmission, he transmitted divine energy directly into the heart of seekers, accelerating their spiritual growth and guiding them toward expanded consciousness. Lalaji Maharaj emphasized heart-centered meditation, shifting the spiritual journey inward and encouraging seekers to explore truth within themselves. His teachings laid the foundation for Sahaj Marg and have since spread globally through the Heartfulness movement. Born on February 2, 1873, on the auspicious day of Basant Panchami in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, Lalaji Maharaj dedicated his life to guiding seekers from all walks of life, offering everyone, without discrimination, the opportunity to attain profound spiritual realization. Today, Heartfulness, which builds upon his teachings, has reached millions of practitioners across 160 countries, helping them cultivate meaningful, balanced lives through heart-based meditation.
