Tenneti Vishwanathan served as the Minister of Finance and Law after the formation of Andhra State from the Madras Presidency. Tenneti Viswanathan contested the Visakhapatnam seat for the Madras Legislative Assembly in 1952, representing the Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party. In 1955, he contested elections in Madugula and lost against Donda Sriram Murthy. Despite that he contested both the Madugula and Visakhapatnam seats in 1962, winning Madugula but losing in Visakhapatnam. His legacy is commemorated in Visakhapatnam by having a park named after him and two bronze statues installed in his memory. Tenneti Viswanathan belonged to a Telugu-speaking Brahmin family and was a prominent political figure from Visakhapatnam, located on the east coast of India. He is particularly recognised for his instrumental role in setting up Tenneti Visakhapatnan’s modern shore-based steel plant. In 1937, Viswanatham was elected to the Madras Legislative Assembly. His political career flourished after he assumed the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Madras Assembly in 1951. Later, he was elected to the 4th Lok Sabha from Visakhapatnam constituency. The Indian Postal Department issued Tenneti Viswanathan First Day Cover in honor of his contribution.
