For the very first time in history, India assumed the Chair of the SCO Council of Heads of State on 17th September 2022 from Uzbekistan. It was a historic moment as India led the organization’s highest decision-making body for the first time. India assumed the chair at the 23rd session of the SCO Council of Heads of State on 4th July 2023 under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an important multilateral organization which is leading regional security, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange. Founded on 15th June 2001 in Shanghai, SCO has eight Member States, i.e., China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
