Mehboob Khan’s film career began when he was brought to Mumbai from Gujarat as a horseshoe repairer for Indian cinema producer Noor Muhammad Ali Muhammad Shipra Badhiyawala. Recognising Mehboob Khan’s talent and passion, Indian director Chandrashekhar facilitated his entry into the world of films. Mehboob Khan was born on 9 September 1907 in Surat, Gujarat, his childhood name was Ramzan Khan. He was a leading figure of Indian cinema, best known for his directorial masterpiece Mother India. Mother India received the Filmfare Awards for Best Film and Best Director. The film received several awards, including two National Film Award nominations and an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In 1954, Mehboob Khan left an indelible mark on Indian cinema by establishing Mehboob Productions and later Mehboob Studios in Bandra, Mumbai. In honor of his centenary celebration, the Indian Postal Department issued Mehboob Khan (Filmmaker & Director) First Day Cover (FDC).
