Description

Field Marshal Claude Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army led a global committee after the end of World War II. The committee later submitted a comprehensive report to the Government of India. After India gained independence in August 1947, the Chiefs of Staff Committee rapidly implemented the recommendations outlined in the report. In late 1947, an action plan was drawn up to establish a permanent defense academy. Additionally, it was decided to set up an interim training academy called Joint Services Wing (JSW). Began operations at the Armed Forces Academy (now recognized as the Indian Military Academy) at Dehradun on January 1, 1949.
