13-04-2019: 100Years of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre Miniature sheet


The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre miniature sheet was launched by the Indian Post Office on 13th April 2019 to pay tribute to the completion of 100 years of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. It also known as the Amritsar Massacre, took place on 13th April 1919. A large peaceful crowd had gathered at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar city of Punjab to protest against the Rowlatt Act and the arrest of pro-independence activists. On the day of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the people of Punjab and Haryana were celebrating the festival of Baisakhi. British Brigadier General, R.E.H. Dyer ordered his soldiers to open fire on peaceful gatherings, killing thousands of people. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre is a stigmatized event in Indian history. It massacre created a feeling of hatred among the Indian people toward the British Empire.
