Udhagamandalam HPO The first post office in Udhagamandalam was opened in 1826 with a scribe and delivery peon. There is no record of where the office was originally located. The same has been shown and marked as a government bungalow. The Cooch Behar HPO, office was opened in 1875 under the control of the Rangpur Postal Division. The Cooch Behar Post Office initially functioned in the building located at Para. Maharaja Nripendra Narayan constructed the post office building and during his rule, the state of Cooch Behar had a telegraph and five post offices. The World Philatelic Exhibition to be held in New Delhi first released a set of six Miniature Sheets on Postal Heritage Buildings. The New Delhi GPO is one of the buildings of India Post which has been given the status of Heritage Building by the Archaeological Survey of IndiaThe land for Delhi GPO was purchased in 1870. Established in 1883, the Shimla GPO houses one of the oldest buildings in the country, known as the Connie Lodge. Shimla GPO is a wooden structure covered with tin. Its design consists of six large hollow pillars of stone and brick that run its height. A fire in 1972 destroyed most of the old records in the building. The building was rebuilt and in 1992 building was declared among the heritage post office buildings of the country.
