The Government Museum, Chennai celebrated its 151st anniversary on 19th June 2003 at the Museum, Chennai. Dr R. Kannan, IAS, Agriculture welcomed the gathering and read out the report on the activities of the Museum in connection with the celebrations to mark the completion of the 151st year. Seeing this need, the Indian Postal Department issued a set of three miniature sheets. The then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Selvi J Jayalalithaa released publications and video compact discs by the museum and addressed the audience. The then Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, President of India, unveiled the commemorative plaque and inaugurated new reorganized galleries, such as the exhibition of Industries and Handicrafts of Tamil Nadu, the Science Park behind the museum, and the Numismatics Gallery.
