A boy named Taru who was the headman of a village was killed in an encounter with a tiger. After that everyone there declared Taru as a deity and a temple dedicated to Taru is present under a tree on the banks of Tadoba Lake. Originally the Gond kings once ruled these forests around the Chimur hills. But in 1935 official hunting was banned. Then in 1955, this forest area was declared a national park. Tadoba Andhari National Park is a wildlife sanctuary in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra state in India. It is the oldest Tiger Reserve Park in Maharashtra. It was established in 1958 and includes Tadoba National Park and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary. On this opportunity, Indian Post Department launched the Tadoba Andhari National Park Miniature Sheet which’s a set of two Miniature Sheets. The Tadoba Andhari National Park covers 577.96 km² of reserve forest and 32.51 km² of protected forest. The word Tadoba is derived from the name of the Tadoba deity, who resides in the dense forests of the Tadoba and Andhari region, while the word Andhari is derived from the Andhari River as it flows through the forest.
