The Indian Medical Council was established in 1934, it was established under the Indian Medical Council Act 1933. Its primary objective was to establish consistent and high standards of competence in modern medicine within India and internationally. To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Medical Council of India, the Indian Postal Department released a postage stamp ‘Medical Council of India. After India’s independence, there was a significant increase in the number of medical colleges, which exposed the limitations of the existing Indian Medical Council Act in effectively managing the rapid growth in medical education. In response to these challenges, a new Act was introduced in 1956 to replace the previous Act.
