In 1784, The Zoological Survey of India began from the days of the Asiatic Society of Bengal by William jones and ZSI was founded on 1 July 1916 by the Government of the Indian Ministry of environment. The Zoological gallery at the Asiatic society museum under the charge of Nathaniel Wallich served in the formation of the zoological survey of India. The scope and function of ZSI considerably expanded, ratified by the Government of India in 1994.
