Dhananjay Ramchandra Gadgil was born on 10 April in 1901. He was also known as DR Gadgil. He was an Indian economist, institute builder and Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission of India. He was the founding director of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune, and the author of the Gadgil Formula, which served as the basis for the allocation of central assistance to states during India’s Fourth and Fifth Five Year Plans.
