Brahmika saree is developed by Jnanadanandini Tagore. Jnanadanandini belongs to the Tagore family. During a journey to Gujarat with her husband, Jnanadanandini improvised upon the saree worn by Parsi women, she generated her own style of dressing the aanchal/pallu over the left shoulder – as opposed to the Parsi style, so that the right-hand stays free for courtesies. She was even promoted in the monthly magazine Bamabodhini Patrika to train other women to wear the saree in her new style. The style soon became accepted among the Brahmo women of Calcutta by the name of Brahmika saree.
