Pathare Prabhu is the Hindu society in the city of Mumbai (Bombay). they have come from Patan, Gujarat to Mumbai in the 13th century. They were the first few people who live in Bombay. They were from a resourceful society. They have 100% literacy rate in their society. They worked in several important positions in the British government in India. Pathare Prabhus permitted to be involved in British Indian society assemblies due to the special status obtained under the foreign rulers. Their clothing was also similar to the English fashion trends of their time.

Pathare Prabhu followed the Smartha Hinduism custom. In the 19th century, they have consider Bombay as ‘Desh’ (country). They created the “Kshatriya Union Club”, which were the five primary communities of Girgaon, Parel, Mahim, Mazagaon and Worli. In 1887, they organized a meeting at the “Desh” level. In this meeting, it was approved that “naikns” (dancers) agree to stop inviting Marriage parties and Upanayana. The Pathare Prabhu member who violated this rule was outcast by the community.
