Pin code was started in India on 15th August 1972. This is the six-digit code for post office numbering used by India Post. Each digit in a six-digit number has its own meaning. The first digit from the left specifies the geographic region, and the first 2 digits indicate the sub-region. The third digit indicates the sorting district. The last 3 digits of the pin code together represent the post office within the district. Pin codes ease the delivery of mail by eliminating incorrect addresses, similar place names as well as confusion over the different languages used by the public. The use of pin codes on mail parcels ensures timely delivery even to the remotest parts of the country. 12-10-2022: Golden Jubilee of PINCODE India Stamp
₹35.00
To mark the completion of 50 years of the establishment of Pincode and to contribute to the economic development of the country, the Indian Post Department released the Golden Jubilee of Pincode India stamp. India Post, a network of over 1.59 lakh post offices spread across India, provides home delivery of mail to all Indians. India Post undertakes the exciting task of locating 25 crore households. Professional mail management and a scientific method are needed to ensure the timely delivery of mail. In the absence of pin codes, the collection and delivery of postal material took a long time. Reading an address became a time-consuming process, plus the sorter had to memorize a large number of sorting patterns in order to get the mail to the proper destination.
