Krishna Kumar Birla’s father Ghanshyam Das Birla was the founder of the Birla Group and a prominent Indian businessman. A devoted follower of Mahatma Gandhi, Ghanshyam Das Birla was a major financier of Gandhi’s Congress Party before and after India’s independence in 1947. Krishna Kumar joined the Congress Party as a life member in 1984 and was elected as a Rajya Sabha member in the same year.
