Krishna Kumar Birla was an Indian industrialist, born on 11 November 1918 in Pilani, Rajasthan, the second son of Ghanshyam Das Birla. Krishna Kumar Birla’s father Ghanshyam Das Birla was the founder of the Birla Group and a prominent Indian businessman. A devoted follower of Mahatma Gandhi, Ghanshyam Das Birla was a major financier of Gandhi’s Congress Party before and after India’s independence in 1947. Krishna Kumar joined the Congress Party as a life member in 1984 and was elected as a Rajya Sabha member in the same year. Krishna Kumar Birla was married to Manorama Devi, both of them lived together for 67 years. Krishna Kumar Birla died on 30 August 2008 at Birla Park in Kolkata, a few weeks before his 90th birthday.
