Deekshabhoomi is regarded as one of the most revered monuments of Buddhism. It is at this very place, the architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, embraced Buddhism with nearly 4 lakhs of his followers on 14 October 1956. Deekshabhoomi is spread across 22 acres of land in the heart of nagpur. Deekshabhoomi Stupa is the Largest hollow stupa among all buddhist stupas in India. The diameter is 36 meters and has a height of 22 meters. Height from ground level is 30 meters. Based on the theme of Ashok Chakra, the stupa rests on 24 pillars resembling 24 spokes. The stupa dome is constructed with concrete blocks and stands on a self-supporting concrete umbrella as a capstone. The dome is sorrounded by a four meter wide veranda.
