Sam Hormusji Framji Jamsetji Manekshaw, widely known as Sam Manekshaw was the chief of staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistan War In 1971 and was also the first officer of the Indian Army as a Field Marshal. His Military Career spanned four decades and five wars, beginning with service in the Indian Army during II World War. In 1932, Manekshaw joined the first intake of the Indian Military Academy. He was commissioned into the 12th Frontier Force Regiment. After II World War, he was awarded the Military Cross. After the partition of India, he was redeployed to the 8th Gorkha Rifles.
