Manekshaw was seconded to a deputation during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947 and the Hyderabad Crisis and never held an infantry battalion. Manekshaw was promoted to the rank of brigadier while serving in military operations. The academy was inaugurated by Chetvod on 10th December 1932, and military training of cadets began on 1 October 1932. Sam Manekshaw was born Hormiz Manekshaw to a doctor on 3rd April 1914 in Amritsar, Punjab. Manekshaw was selected as the first batch of cadets. During World War II, Manekshaw served in the British Indian Army as a captain in the Indian Medical Service.
