Inauguration of a large-scale Asian-African or Afro-Asian conference, also known as the Bandung Conference was held in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia from 18 to 24 April 1955. It saw the participation of twenty-nine countries. The Bandung conference was organized by India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Ruslan Abdulgani, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, served as the coordinator of the event. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Bandung Conference in 2005, leaders of Asian and African countries gathered in Jakarta and Bandung to inaugurate the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership. On this occasion, the Indian Postal Department issued this postage stamp.
