Kannankara Velayudhan Raman Pillai is also known as one of the leading Indian novelists. He is particularly known for historical novels such as Dharmaraja and Ramraja Bahadur. He was born on 19 May 1858 in Thiruvananthapuram. He was born to Sanskrit scholar Panavilakatha Neelakantha Pillai and both his parents were from middle-class families. CV Raman Pillai received a traditional Sanskrit education under the guidance of his father in his early years, which included the teachings of Ayurveda, magic and tantra. On 19 May 2010, India Post Department A commemorative postage stamp was issued in honour of C.V Raman Pillai. He later graduated from His Highness the Maharaja’s College (now University College Thiruvananthapuram).
