The Indian Army originated from the forces of the East India Company, which was later, formed as the British Indian Army. British Commander-in-Chief General Sir Francis Roy Bucher served as the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from 15th January 1949. January 15th also marks India’s transition to independence from the British. Army Day is celebrated every year on 15 January to honour the valour, courage and sacrifice of soldiers. On the occasion of the completion of the 75th year of Indian Army Day in the year 2023, the Indian Postal Department released the 75th year of the Indian Army Day Stamp. Since 1949 till now the Army Day Parade is organized at Cariappa Parade Ground Delhi under the aegis of IHQ of the Ministry of Defence.
