Puran Chandra Gupta was a renowned Indian journalist, celebrated for his pivotal role in establishing the Dainik Jagran Media Group and the Hindi-language newspaper, Dainik Jagran, which has consistently held its position as India’s most widely read daily publication. In recognition of his contribution towards the country, the Indian Postal Department released the Puran Chandra Gupta India Stamp. Puran Chandra Gupta’s early life saw him born in Uttar Pradesh Kalpi and receiving his primary education in Kalpi and Varanasi. Subsequently, he pursued further studies in both of these cities. In the year 1940, he embarked on a significant journalistic venture by initiating Swatantra, a nationalist weekly newspaper headquartered in Kanpur. However, Swatantra encountered opposition from the British administration, leading Gupta to relocate to Jhansi.
