Lt. E. S. Chunder Sen was an Indian pilot. He worked in the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and Royal Air Force (RAF) during the First World War. He was the first Indian army pilot. He was allotted to No. 70 squad Royal Flying Corps (RFC), which was established at Poperinge in West Flanders, Belgium and prepared with the Sopwith Camel. He crashed while taking part in an offensive round and landed behind enemy lines and become POW. On 14 December 1918, He was released to the U.K. after First World War.

Lt. E. S. Chunder Sen was born on 13 March 1899 at Calcutta (now Kolkata) to an Indian father and English mother. His grandfather Keshab Chandra was a philosopher and social worker. In childhood, he shifted to England with his mother, brother and sister. He studied at Rossall School in Fleetwood, Lancashire, He applied to join the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) in November 1916, but his request was not accepted because he was below the required age. Then he work in a bank, and when he turned 18, he applied for a second attempt in 1917, this time he was accepted, On 7 August 1917 he was appointed as a flying officer.
