Lt. S.C. Wellingkar was an Indian Pilot. He worked in the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force. in April/May 1917, He volunteered and was admitted to the Royal Flying Corps and got his wings. He flew several war attacks over France to blunt the German attack in the summer of 1918. He was the first Indian fighting pilot and also the first to be martyred in First World War on 30 June 1918.

Lt. S.C. Wellingkar was born in Gwalior Royal Family in Bombay (Mumbai) in October 1894. He joined St Xavier’s High School in Bombay. After that, he attended Jesus College, Cambridge in the lent period of 1915 to study history and law. He was also interested in flying so took education at a flying school at Hendon. In August 1916 he got a Royal Aero Club certificate. In April/ May 1917 He Joined Royal Flying Corps. He was posted replacement in the newly founded RAF on 1 April 1918.
