Violet Alva was an Indian lawyer, Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, member of the Indian National Congress, and Nationalists and journalists. She was the first woman lawyer to appear in the High Court in India and the first woman to preside over the Rajya Sabha. On 24th April 1908, Violet Alva was born in Ahmadabad. Their father Laxman Hari, was one of the first Indian pastors of the Church of England. After losing her parents at sixteen, her elder brother provided her education until her matriculation. Violet Alva graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Bombay and Government Law College. After that, she was an English professor at the Indian Women’s University, Bombay.
