Indian politician Rajiv Gandhi was born on 20 August 1944 in Bombay to Indira Gandhi and Feroze Gandhi. Renewable Energy Day was inaugurated on 20 August 2004, on the occasion of Rajiv Gandhi’s 60th birth Anniversary. On this occasion, Indian Post issued a postage stamp. The event was organized by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in collaboration with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Sources (MNRE) in New Delhi. He received his education at the École d’Humanite, an international boarding school in Switzerland. Rahul Gandhi returned to India in 1966, coinciding with his mother’s ascension to the role of Prime Minister.

Rajiv Gandhi came to Delhi and joined the Flying Club, where he received pilot training. He secured a position as a pilot with Indian Airlines. In 1968, he married Edwige Antonia Albina Maino, who later changed her name to Sonia Gandhi. The sad thing is that on June 23, 1980, Rajiv’s younger brother Sanjay Gandhi lost his life in a plane crash. Rajiv Gandhi began his political journey on February 16, 1981, when he spoke at a national farmers’ rally held in Delhi. Rajiv Gandhi assumed the role of Prime Minister after the assassination of Indira Gandhi on 31 October 1984 and served as the sixth Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989.
