50 Years of full Statehood of Meghalaya was completed by Meghalaya on 21st January. The State of Meghalaya was carved out of Assam as an independent state in April 1970. Meghalaya was declared a State on 21 January 1972 by the Government of India under the North Easter (Re-organisation) Act. It was the start of a new era in the history of North-Eastern India.
