The challenge of maintaining a tight vigil on the Indo-Pak border had arisen immediately after independence. In 1965, the various police units entrusted with the security of the border were functioning largely under the control of the Government. The organization standard of the training and scale of the equipment differed from one unit to another and there was coordination amongst all border guiding units.
