Sarangdhar Das worked as chief chemist in a sugar factory in Honolulu, Hawaii. He returned to India and tried to establish a sugar factory in Orissa, but failed. After that, he devoted himself to activism against the feudal powers. He worked as General Secretary of Orissa State’s People’s Conference from 1937 to 1946. In 1946 he played an important role in the All India States People’s Conference. He then served as Chairman of the Socialist Party from 1951 to 1952. Sarangdhar Das was an Indian nationalist revolutionary and politician from Orissa. He fought against feudalism in Odisha as well as served as a member of the Constituent Assembly of India. Sarangdhar Das made significant contributions to the political landscape of India as the leader of the Socialist Party. He was born in 1886 in Dhenkanal in the house of Harekrishna Sumant Patnaik. In 1907, he went to Japan for further studies at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, financially supported by the Raja of Dhenkanal. In 1909, he went to the United States to specialize in sugar technology at the University of California, Berkeley. The Indian Postal Department issued a postage stamp commemorating the contributions of Sarangadhar Das.
