Central Institute of Plastics and Technology (CIPET) was established in 1968 in Chennai by the Indian Government with a help of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). The primary objective of the establishment of the CIPET institute was to create manpower in different sectors of Plastics Engineering and Technology. There was no similar institute was in existence in the country before the establishment of CIPET. International Labour Organization (ILO) worked as executing agency for the CIPET.Â
