Anagarika Dharmapala established more than 300 Buddhist schools. It was during this period that Hevavitarn changed his name to Anagarika Dharmapala. Anagarika Dharmapala adopted eight principles for life, including abstinence from murder, theft, sexual activity, wrongful speech, intoxicating drinks and drugs, eating food after noon, entertainment and fashionable attire and luxurious beds. These precepts were generally followed by the people of Ceylon during ritual days. In 1931, Anagarika Dharmapala visited Ceylon and founded the ‘Dharampala Trust.
