Khartargachha Jain is the oldest and most prominent sect of the Shwetambar sect, some of whose traditions are still visible today. Around 2600 BCE, Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, preached Jain devotees and followers to follow strict rules and order by establishing a religious association and system of governance. Shri Jineshwar Suri defeated Chaityavasi Shukracharya in Patan around Samvat 1075 and attained the post of Kartar and his followers were identified as Khartargachha sect. The Indian Postal Department issued a postage stamp in appreciation of his efforts to serve humanity.
