Maharaja Surajmal was a Jat ruler who ruled Bharatpur in the state of Rajasthan. His dominion extended to Agra, Aligarh, Bharatpur and surrounding areas. Famous for his astute political skills, he earned the nickname Plato of the Jat tribe. Surajmal was born on 13th February 1707 in Bharatpur, Rajasthan into a Hindu Jat family. Remembering the great work done by Maharaja Surajmal in the state of Rajasthan, the Indian Postal Department issued a postage stamp in his name. Maharaja Surajmal is credited with the establishment of the Bharatpur Empire, which reached its peak under his leadership.
