Jasraj mastered playing the tabla at the age of 7 and started performing with his brothers and other artistes. In 1947, a concert center for his family’s artistic creativity shifted to Kolkata. Jasraj performed his first concert for the King of Nepal at the age of 22. As a teacher, he also established music schools globally. Jasraj often came to Hyderabad to seek blessings from his father. He built a temple-like structure at the funeral site of Pandit Motiram, where he used to sing for hours. Pandit Jasraj was born on 28th January 1930 in a famous Mewati family in Hisar, Haryana. His grandfather, father, uncle and brother were famous singers. Pandit Jasraj’s basic music education was started by his father Pandit Motiram. In 1934, Pandit Motiram moved to Hyderabad following an invitation from the Nizam of Hyderabad to become a court musician. The youngest son, Jasraj, received his early education in music from his father in Hyderabad. Pandit Motiram died on November 30th, 1934, when Jasraj was just 4 years old. After his father’s death, Jasraj received training from his brother Pandit Maniram. India Post Department released a postage stamp on the occasion of completion of 50 years of Pandit Jasraj Pt. Motiram Pt. Maniram consent.
