Bajirao Peshwa’s complex relationship with his wife Mastani has been a subject of fascination in Indian literature and cinema. Bajirao Peahwa was born in a Brahmin family whose education included reading, writing and learning Sanskrit. He displayed a deep passion for the military from an early age and often accompanied his father on military campaigns. Bajirao accompanied his father on the Delhi campaign of 1719, during which he became convinced that the Mughal Empire was weakening and would not be able to resist Maratha expansion in the north.
