Sagarmal Gopa was born in 1900 into a prosperous merchant family in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Despite his affluent background, he was deeply influenced by the growing nationalist movements across the country. Gopa’s commitment to the cause of freedom was unwavering, and he became an active participant in various activities aimed at ending British colonial rule. Gopa’s efforts were particularly focused on addressing the issues faced by the common people under the feudal regime of the Jaisalmer state, which was then aligned with the British Raj. He advocated for the rights of the oppressed and worked tirelessly to mobilize the masses against both the local feudal lords and the British authorities. In 1941, due to his relentless activism and his role in organizing protests and spreading nationalist ideas, Sagarmal Gopa was arrested by the authorities. He was subjected to severe torture during his imprisonment, reflecting the harsh measures employed by the colonial regime to stifle dissent. Tragically, he succumbed to the brutal treatment on April 4, 1946, becoming a martyr for India’s freedom. Are you interested to buy Indian Stamps, FDC,  and Miniature Sheet ?
