Sri Lanka has a Tamil-speaking community with its roots in workers brought to the country from South India. Their primary objective was to work on coffee, tea and rubber plantations. Bharatiya Janata Party President J.P. Nadda unveiled a special postage stamp to commemorate the bicentenary of the arrival of Tamils of Indian origin in Sri Lanka. The release of the postage stamp took place at the BJP Headquarters in New Delhi, with the Governor of the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka, Senthil Thondaman, receiving the commemorative postage stamp.
