The Lalit Kala Akademy, located in New Delhi, India, was inaugurated by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on 5th August 1954. It was officially registered in 1957 under the Societies Registration Act 1860. Among the academies established by the Government of India, the Lalit Kala Akademi is the smallest, with its primary focus on promoting activities in the field of visual arts. The Lalit Kala Akademi India stamp was issued to commemorate the promotion of its culture across the world. During the inaugural address, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad emphasized the role of the Academy in nurturing and enhancing the rich artistic traditions of the past through preserving them. He said that the Academy should work to preserve the glorious traditions of the past and enrich them with the work of our modern artists.
