General K.S. Thimayya whose full name is Kodender Subbayya was an Indian Army veteran and served the country as the Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army from 1957 to 1961 leading to the 1962 conflict with India and China. General K.S. Thimayya was the only Indian soldier to command an infantry brigade in World War II, making him the greatest combat general the Indian Army ever produced. Indian Post Department issued K.S. Thimayya Indian Stamps as a mark of service to the nation. Kodandera Subbaiah Thimayya was awarded the Padma Bhushan in the field of civil service in 1954 for serving the country as the Indian Army Chief.
