After Sir C.V. Raman retired from the Indian Institute of Science, the Raman Research Institute served as a platform to continue his studies and fundamental research. Until his death in 1970, Sir C.V. Raman personally directed the research activities at the institute. Which was initially funded from his personal resources and contributions from private donors. Subsequently, in 1972, the Institute was reorganized and converted into an aided autonomous institute. Which receives financial assistance from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Raman Research Institute is a prestigious research organization in Indian science founded by Nobel laureate Sir C.V Raman.
