Guduru Venkata Chalam was an Indian activist and agricultural scientist who was awarded the Padma Shri in 1967. He was born in 1909 in Gudivada, a city in Andhra Pradesh, India. Guduru Venkata Chalam suffered ancestral loss at the age of eight and was brought up by his uncle Guduguru Ramachandra Rao. His uncle played an important role in organizing the first Adi Andhra Mahajana Sabha in 1917. This meeting advocated the liberation of the marginalized castes called Mala and Madiga, who are primarily identified as Dalits. Guduru Venkata Chalam, inspired by his uncle, became actively involved in social reforms as a prominent member of the Sahodara Samajam.
