Pandurang Vaman Kane was one of the great Sanskrit scholars and Indologists of India, who was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest award in 1963. Famous historian Ram Sharan Sharma says that Pandurang Vaman Kane was the creator of the old tradition of social reform. His ancient work History of Theology, published in five volumes in the 20th century, is an encyclopedia of social law as well as customs, which helps us study the ancient social process of India. For his great creation and great thinking, the Indian Post Department released Pandurang Vaman Kane Indian Stamps. Pandurang Vaman Kane was born on 7 May 1880 in a Brahmin family in Parshuram village, Maharashtra.
