S.C.B. MEDICAL COLLEGE & HOSPITAL, CUTTACK was established in 1875 by the British as Odisha Medical School. Which later developed as Odisha Medical College in 1944. In 1951, to honor Sri Rama Chandra Bhanja, it was renamed Sri Rama Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital for the financial contribution of one lakh and thirty thousand. This was a big amount at that time. The first batch (1944-1948), of this college, was conducted by 22 MBBS students. In 1952, the institute was recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
