The suggestion to establish a Chamber of Commerce in Bihar and Orissa came in 1925 against the backdrop of intense debate on the rupee-sterling ratio and the economic challenges faced by the region. Recognising the need for organized representation, the Bihar Chamber of Commerce was established on September 9, 1926. Reaffirming its commitment towards the economic, agricultural and industrial development of Bihar, the Chamber of Commerce celebrated its platinum jubilee in 2002. In which Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam graced the closing ceremony of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. In recognition of its service, the Government of India issued a Platinum Jubilee of the Bihar Chamber of Commerce (2001) in 2002.
